Here’s a piece of mid-90s hardcore history that deserves more recognition than it received at the time. Kilara’s “The Funeral Fix” captures that raw, unpolished energy that defined the underground scene in ’97, when bands were pushing beyond traditional hardcore boundaries while major labels were busy chasing the next grunge successor. This Albany-based quartet had a knack for balancing crushing breakdowns with unexpectedly melodic passages, creating something that felt both familiar and genuinely surprising. The album’s eight tracks clock in at just under 30 minutes, but every second feels intentional no filler, just pure aggression tempered by moments of genuine vulnerability.
